Divorce can make some people happy

A divorce can have an emotional and financial impact on your life. However, a survey conducted by Carphone Warehouse found that individuals in Pennsylvania and elsewhere who have gotten divorced can find happiness again. The study polled more than 2,000 people to learn more about how they felt after their marriages came to an end.

Respondents felt less stress and greater levels of self-esteem

According to the survey, 35% of female respondents said that they felt less stress after their divorces were finalized. It also found that 30% of female respondents said that they felt better about themselves without their former spouses in their lives. Among male respondents, 17% said that they experienced lower levels of stress after their marriages came to an end.

Women may process their emotions before ending their marriages

Those who study divorce trends say that 80% of divorces are initiated by women. In many cases, they have started to plan the divorce months or years before they actually decide to go through with it. Therefore, they may have already worked through the negative emotions that come with ending a marriage. This may explain why women are more likely than men to feel better about themselves after their relationships come to an end.

Silence can be a sign that something is wrong

You may think it’s a good thing that your spouse has stopped complaining about the mess in the living room or leaving your socks on the floor. However, it may actually be a sign that your spouse is simply given up on trying to make the relationship better. In many cases, actively listening to your partner and asking questions can lead to better communication and a stronger relationship.

If you are thinking about getting a divorce, an attorney may represent your interests during settlement talks or during a trial. An attorney may also be able to review any agreement reached during mediation or review a prenuptial agreement that was executed prior to your wedding.
