Woman accused of running an adoption scheme

Couples who are unable to have their own biological children may always dream of becoming a family. In these situations, many may consider adoption as a way of providing a child with a loving home. Pennsylvania residents have many options, however, not every opportunity is what it seems.

Recently, one woman has been accused of running an adoption scheme by preying on couples who were hoping to adopt a baby. According to the reports, the woman contacted couples with a picture of a baby waiting on a family. One potential adopter lived several states away when she was contacted by a woman who claimed to be an advocate for children. The accused woman allegedly emailed photos of an infant girl who was intended to be their adopted child.

The woman then reportedly conducted a home visit and then required an adoption fee of approximately $1,800 on top of the inspection cost.  When this family discovered that the baby was not up for adoption, the intended mother contacted the infant's mother, who went public with the allegations. There are reportedly other potential parents who were contacted by this same woman who purportedly had a background as a social worker.

Investigators stated that there have been countless victims who have filed complaints against the woman who already has a criminal record for several offenses unrelated to these accusations. While there are many private adoptions that are legitimate, it may benefit potential parents to thoroughly investigate every opportunity. Pennsylvania residents who are hoping to provide a loving home to a child in need through adoption may wish to seek the assistance of a compassionate family law professional who can ensure that the process is as smooth and efficient as possible.
